GREAT LAKES, Ill. (July 27, 2018) Machinist’s Mate 1st Class Jacob Cotton, an instructor in the USS Chief Recruit Fire Fighter Trainer at Recruit Training Command (RTC), checks the fit of M50 gas masks being worn by Naval ROTC midshipman. The fittings were part of classroom training in USS Chief of chemical, biological and radiological (CBR) defense education for the new incoming midshipmen during indoctrination to the Navy. More than 65 young men and women entering their freshman year of the NROTC program participated in a two-week pilot program designed to provide standardized entry-level militarization and prepare midshipmen with a common training orientation. The indoctrination serves as a standard training launch point for the future naval and Marine Corps officers, and for the development of their character and professional competence.
