A formal military ceremony is taking place outdoors under white arched canopy tents, likely at a memorial or cemetery given the stone monuments visible in the background. A color guard is presenting multiple flags including the American flag, while a naval officer in white dress uniform renders a salute. The audience is seated under the tents on folding chairs, with lush green hills and a flowering tree visible in the background under clear blue skies.

More than 200 past and present military members gathered with civilians to celebrate National POW/MIA Day with the Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command (JPAC) at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific (Punchbowl) in Honolulu, Hawaii, Sept. 16. The third Friday of September has served as the National POW/MIA Recognition Day since 1986 and honors and recognizes the sacrifices of those Americans who have been prisoners of war and to remind the nation of those individuals that are still missing.
JPAC is responsible for the recovery of missing Americans from past conflicts and travels all around the world in search of those individuals in order to bring full accountability to their families and the American people.
