1st Lt. Nickolas Mortenson, a platoon commander with 2nd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment gives a Professional Military Education class on the geography of the Tarawa Atoll on Red Beach 1, Betio, Kiribati, July 22, 2018. During the PME, Mortenson explained the strategy the Marines of 2/8 used when they landed on Red Beach 3 in November 1943. 2/8 is forward deployed to 3rd Marine Division in Okinawa, Japan as part of the unit Deployment Program.
