Union City, New Jersey native Staff Sgt. Tatiana Jairala, a linguist from the 141st Military Intelligence Battalion out of Orem Armory, Utah and attached to Combined Joint Task Force – Hope for Beyond the Horizon 2018, surprised the two students with the highest grades, a boy and a girl, with schools-supplies-filled backpacks after dropping donations she brought from the states to the Portillo El Cabral School at Canton El Carmen in San Pedro Masahuat, El Salvador. BTH is an annual US Army South led exercise which deploys close to 1,800 service members from all military branches. In coordination with the Government of El Salvador, the exercise includes five MEDRETEs, which provide dental services, routine checkups, immunizations, eye exams and other types of medical care. BTH also includes the completion of five engineering projects such as clinics and schools.
