USS Lake Champlain conducts vertical replenishment with USNS Charles Drew (T-AKE 10) during RIMPAC 2018

180720-N-YR245-0492 PACIFIC OCEAN (July 20, 2018) Sailors from the guided-missile cruiser USS Lake Champlain (CG 57), prepare for deliveries on the flight deck during a vertical replenishment from the auxiliary dry cargo and ammunition ship USNS Charles Drew (T-AKE 10) during Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) exercise, July 20. In the distance, Drew pumps fuel to the aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70) and sends supplies via helicopter. Twenty-five nations, more than 45 ships and submarines, and about 200 aircraft and 25,000 personnel are participating RIMPAC from June 27 to Aug. 2 in and around the Hawaiian Islands and Southern California. The world’s largest international maritime exercise, RIMPAC provides a unique training opportunity while fostering and sustaining cooperative relationships among participants critical to ensuring the safety of sea lanes and security of the world’s oceans. RIMPAC 2018 is the 26th exercise in the series that began in 1971. (U.S. Navy photo by Mass Communication Specialist 2nd Class Craig Z. Rodarte/Released)
