Rear. Adm. (Ret.) J. Robert Lunney, a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War speaks with a Republic of Korea Army officer about his experiences during the Korean War with the help of a translator at the Joint Security Area, Republic of Korea, June 19, 2018. Lunney served aboard the S.S. Meredith Victory, known as the "Ship of Miracles" which evacuated nearly 100,000 refugees from Korea. The ship and its crew are noted in the Guinness Book of World Records as having performed "the greatest rescue operation ever by a single ship."
Veterans and family members visited the Eighth Army headquarters, the iconic Joint Security Area where South and North Korean soldiers stand face to face across the Korean Demilitarized Zone and the Dora Observatory, which overlooks North Korea, during an event hosted by the One Race Sharing the Peace organization and the Sae Eden Presbyterian Church.
