State Partnership Program grows spiritual relationships between Ohio and Serbia

First Lt. Goran Sandic (from left), chief Orthodox chaplain for the Serbian Armed Forces, Lt. Col. James Sizemore, an Ohio National Guard chaplain, and 2nd Lt. Vedran Kistoc, a chaplain with the Serbian Armed Forces, participate in a Serbian Orthodox Divine Liturgy, June 17, 2018, at Holy Trinity Cathedral, in Vranje, Serbia. During the Devine Liturgy service, Sizemore took part in the service by leading a portion of the sermon, which was translated by Sandic. Sizemore also asked to provide Holy Communion to the church’s many parishioners. The invitation for Sizemore to participate in the Liturgy stems from the strong 12-year partnership between Ohio and Serbia. For more than a decade, Ohio and Serbia have partnered to promote regional stability and develop civil-military relationships as part of the Department of Defense State Partnership Program.
