PHILLIPINE SEA (June 15, 2018) The Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Benfold (DDG 65) is underway in formation with the Indian navy Deepak-class fleet tanker INS Shakti (A 57), left, the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force Akizuki-class destroyer JS Fuyuzuki (DD-118), the Soryu-class submarine JS Soryu (SS-501), the Hyuga-class helicopter destroyer JS Ise (DDH-182), the Shivalik-class stealth multi-role frigate INS Sahyadri (F 29), the U.S. Navy Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76), the Los Angeles-class attack submarine USS Oklahoma City (SSN 723), the Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser USS Chancellorsville (CG 62) and the Takanami-class destroyer JS Suzunami (DD-114) during Exercise Malabar 2018. Malabar 2018 is the 22nd rendition of the exercise and the first time it has been hosted off the coast of Guam, designed to advance military-to-military coordination in a multinational environment between the U.S., Japan and Indian maritime forces.
