Petty Officer 1st Class Robert Shirley, a boatswain's mate of the Maritime Expeditionary Security Group 2 reviews plans for Naval Expeditionary Combat Command Adaptive Force Package Aug. 26, aboard USS WASP (LHD 1). The NECC AFP, which is comprised of Seabees, Explosive Ordnance Disposal, Riverine Squadrons and Maritime Security Groups, provides coordinated efforts for humanitarian assistance and disaster relief if the need arises. The amphibious assault ship USS WASP (LHD 1) and 27 other Naval Station Norfolk-based ships sortied east into the Atlantic Ocean, Aug. 25, to avoid any ill-effects of Hurricane Irene.
