Nowicki, commanding officer of the amphibious assault ship USS America (LHA 6), renders a salute to the ceremonial side boys after assuming command during a change of command ceremony. At the ceremony, Nowicki relieved Capt. Joseph R. Olson as the commanding officer. America is moored at its homeport of Naval Base San Diego and is conducting a planned maintenance availability in preparation for the ship’s next tour of duty.
