Lt. Col. Alessandro Criscitiello, a commander at the Center of Excellence
for Stability Police Units Training Department, reads about the Tutsi
resettlement to Bugesera in the 1960s during a visit to the Kigali Genocide
Memorial Centre. The Centre commemorates the 1994 genocide against the
Tutsi. The remains of over 250,000 people are interred there. There is a
visitor centre for students and those wishing to understand the events
leading up to the events of 1994. Criscitiello, an Italian police officer,
will mentor Rwandan police during Shared Accord 2018, a multi-component,
joint, combined exercise designed to improve the interoperability and
capabilities of the participating military, police, inter-governmental and
non-governmental organizations to respond to UN and African Union mandated
