Ohio Air National Guard Master Sgt. Dennis Folk (left) and U.S. Army National Guard Sgt. 1st. Class Thomas Trigg prepare to take off from a remote airfield in Qalat, Afghanistan, in a C-27J Spartan. Both sergeants are loadmasters assigned to the 702nd Expeditionary Airlift Squadron in Kandahar, Afghanistan. The C-27J, operated by a joint Army and Air National Guard crew, gives U.S. military troops a unique, short takeoff and landing capability, providing access to airstrips otherwise unreachable by fixed-wing aircraft.
