PEARL HARBOR (May 19, 2018) Military Sealift Command civilian mariner Andi Knox assigned to the submarine tender USS Emory S. Land (AS 39) rotates a fender as the ship prepares to take a submarine alongside in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. Emory S. Land and USS Frank Cable (AS 40), the U.S. Navy’s only two submarine tenders, provide maintenance, hotel services and logistical support to submarines and surface ships in the U.S. 5th and 7th Fleet areas of operation.
