Pahala, Hawaii, May 22, 2018 – Frequent ash emissions and earthquakes continue from the Kilauea summit. Hawaii Volcanoes National Park remains closed and Civil Defense officials are urging those who live near the crater to remain cautious. Eruptions of lava and ground cracking continues in the area of Leilani Estates and Lanipuna Gardens subdivision. More than 2,000 residents have been evacuated since the volcanic activity began on May 3, 2018. FEMA staff are on the ground to support local officials with life-saving emergency protective measures, debris removal, and the repair, replacement, or restoration of disaster-damaged publicly-owned facilities.
