Lance Cpl. Matthew Garcia speaks with Joanna Tincher and other coaches during an Evening Parade reception at Marine Corps Recruiting Command’s (MCRC) 2018 Coaches Workshop aboard Marine Corps Barracks Washington in the District of Columbia, May 18. The Coaches Workshop educates approximately 50 collegiate coaches from across the nation about essential Marine Corps leadership skills and programs that they can share with their student athletes based on first-hand experiences. Tincher is a member of the Womens’ Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA), an organization that helps grow women’s basketball by providing educational programs, network opportunities, news, legislative and rule updates, and acting as the collective voice to the National Collegiate Athletic Association and other governing bodies of the sport. The Marine Corps partners with WBCA to educate and inspire coaches via Marine Corps leadership styles and characteristics, creating brand advocates among the organization’s key influencers. She is an assistant women’s basketball coach at Newberry College in Newberry, South Carolina. Garcia is a docent at the Marine Barracks. (Marine Corps photo by LCpl. Naomi Marcom)
