U.S. Marine Master Sgt. Leroy Forbes, a construction chief with 9th Engineering Support Battalion, 3rd Marine Logistics Group, and a native of Hartford, Conn., holds baby Devin during a community relations event at the Gentle Hands Child Care Center in Quezon City, Philippines, 13 May, 2018, as part of Exercise Balikatan 2018. Philippine, U.S., Japanese, and Australian service members spent Mother’s Day volunteering at the center as part of a community relations effort in the Philippines. Gentle Hands is a child and youth welfare agency meant to be on the front lines of rescue and rehabilitation of the medical, social, psychological, and educational needs of at-risk children and youth, advocating for the rights of the children. Exercise Balikatan, in its 34th iteration, is an annual U.S.-Philippine military training focused on a variety of missions, including humanitarian assistance and disaster relief, counterterrorism, and other combined military operations held from May 7 to May 18.
