INNSWORTH, U.K. -- U.S. Officers and non-commissioned officers assigned to Headquarters, Allied Rapid Reaction Corps, Imjin Barracks, U.K., pose for a photo on-board an authentic Douglas C-47 aircraft that was used during the invasion of Normandy and throughout World War II, while touring the Museum of Merville Battery, in Merville, France, April 17. The museum visit was part of a week-long staff ride to Normandy, utilizing a U.S. Army Europe program and focusing on Operation Overlord from a corps-level perspective and how NATO might execute a similar operation today.
“It’s a great program that USAREUR has available for Army units stationed in Europe,” said U.S. Army Lt. Col. Adam Hallmark, the staff ride’s lead planner, of the USAREUR staff ride program. “Units can either select from a list of packaged European staff rides provided and overseen by a civilian contractor or they can create and tailor their own so long as it comes in under a certain budget cap; we went the latter.”
