Members of the U.S. military and Australian Defence Force volunteer to help improve and restore St. Christopher's Chapel during Talisman Sabre 2011. The chapel dates back to World War II, when the U.S. Army 542nd Engineers, Ship and Shore Battalion, built a non-denominational chapel for soldiers sent to Rockhampton to rest during combat operations near Australia. Members of the U.S. and Australian militaries volunteered time to help improve and restore the chapel. Talisman Sabre 2011 is an exercise designed to train U.S. and Australian forces to plan and conduct combined task force operations to improve combat readiness and interoperability on a variety of missions from conventional conflict to peacekeeping and humanitarian assistance efforts.
