Recruits with Alpha Company, 1st Recruit Training Battalion, apply chokes to fellow recruits during Marine Corps Martial Arts Program training session at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, April 23. One of the purposes of MCMAP is to teach recruits how to defeat a simulated enemy using hand-to-hand combat. Annually, more than 17,000 males recruited from the Western Recruiting Region are trained at MCRD San Diego. Alpha Company is scheduled to graduate June 29.
