U.S. Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Christopher Candela, a Portage, Mich., native, currently serves as a detention facility security guard force member here. Candela arrived in Afghanistan in December 2010 on a nine-month tour for Task Group Trident, a subordinate Combined Joint Interagency Task Force 435 command that oversees all detention operations at the Detention Facility in Parwan. The task force ensures the safe and humane custody, control and care of detained persons in the DFIP.
