Command Sgt. Maj. Jacinto Garza at the plate for the Jasper Bulldogs during their game against the Port Neches High School the 1st round of the playoffs in 1994. The team progressed on to the third round that year. Garza credits his hometown’s sense of community and camaraderie with sports for fueling his competitive fire. Known in those days as “Señor Smoke” for his ability to throw his fastball in the lower to mid-80 mph range, 24 years later Garza oversees a command of more than 2,000 Soldiers and civilians providing logistics and sustaining combat readiness for a region spanning 9,000 miles and including 36 countries.
