The mini-boat Pacific Lotus begins its hopeful journey across the Pacific Ocean after being launched by a small-boat crew from the Coast Guard Cutter Steadfast off the coast of Baja, Mexico, March, 2, 2018.
Five schools from Oregon and five schools from Hachinohe, Japan are participating in a science project that will help the students better understand the ocean, currents, wind and the atmosphere, and additionally participate in a cultural exchange.
