180410-N-ZD021-0022 SASEBO, Japan (April 10, 2018) Hospital Corpsman 3rd Class John Nagy retrieves medical supplies from a storeroom during a training evolution in medical department aboard the submarine tender USS Emory S. Land (AS 39). Land is currently deployed as an expeditionary submarine tender conducting coordinated tended moorings and afloat maintenance. Land and USS Frank Cable (AS 40), the U.S. Navy’s only two submarine tenders, both homeported in Apra Harbor, Guam, provide maintenance, hotel services and logistical support to submarines and surface ships in the U.S. 5th and 7th Fleet areas of operation.
