Maj. Patrick Vankirk (second from right), the human resources officer of 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, smiles for a Family photo with his wife, Theresa, and their six children, April 11, 2018, near Fort Drum, New York. Patrick’s 20 year career has taken the Vankirks to a series of unique duty stations across three countries and six states. The kids range in age from three to 14, and were all born in different locations except for the twins. Every April, children who endure the challenges of having a parent in the military are recognized for their unique experiences and sacrifices during Month of the Military Child.
