Sgt. Marcy Sanchez, combat correspondent with I Marine Expeditionary Force, adjusts his M50 gas mask during a chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear defense confidence course July 8. The MOPP suit and gas mask protects Marines in an environment with a potentially hazardous substance. The training helps build confidence with the new M50 gas mask while in a controlled environment. The gas used in the chamber is chlorobenzylidene malonitrile, or CS gas, a non-lethal substance used in military and police departments as a riot control agent.
