The District of Columbia National Guard provides support to local law enforcement authorities while conducting crowd management, traffic control and vehicle intrusions operations during the March for Our lives demonstration in Washington, D.C. on March 24, 2018. The soldiers also supplemented Metro's crowd management with directing and ensuring the safety of pedestrians at 12 Metro stations. The District of Columbia National Guard additionally supported the city with stand-by rapid detection teams manned by personnel from the 33rd Civil Support Team that provided Chemical Biological Radiological Nuclear and high-yield Explosive detection support. The authority to aid in the mission comes from requesting emergency agencies to the D.C. Homeland Security and Emergency Management System. Finally, the D.C. National Guard acted as an aide multiplier, by performing a civic duty of providing safety to our residents and visitors during the event. (U.S. Army National Guard photo by Spc.
