Task Force Power Leader meets with Puerto Rico's Secretary of State

Col Jason Kirk, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Task Force Power Restoration Commander, met today with Puerto Rico's Lieutenant Governor & Secretary of State Luis Rivera-Marin on the status of our Power Restoration efforts. Hand-in-hand with FEMA, our partner utility PREPA and multiple utility industry cohorts, USACE has achieved greater than 91% restoration and remains committed to getting the lights on across Puerto Rico. Kirk commands TFPR for USACE who leads the FEMA assigned federal effort to make emergency repairs and restore power until more comprehensive repairs can be made to stabilize the power grid. Puerto Rico has 2,400 miles of transmission lines across the island and 30,000 miles of distribution lines with 300 sub-stations. It is estimated that 80 percent of the grid was affected when Hurricane Maria struck the island on Sept. 20, 2017.
