Darren Back, Minot resident, removes water from a neighbor's yard in Minot, N.D., June 23. Minot Mayor Curt Zimbelman ordered the evacuation of nearly 12,000 of the city's residents as water began spilling over Minot's levees. The deluge from the Souris River is expected to exceed that of the city's historical 1969 flood, making this the region's worst flooding in four decades.
