A Coast Guard Sector Puget Sound marine investigator examines a fire door aboard the 876-foot container ship MOL PRESTIGE on February 12, 2018, at Pier 18 in the Port of Seattle while working on preliminary investigations into the cause of the engine room fire as it began its voyage to Tokyo, Japan, on February 1. The Coast Guard conducts an average of more than 70,000 domestic vessel inspections and 10,000 Port State Control examinations of foreign vessels in accordance with federal regulations.
