Recovery Field Office commander Lt. Col. Roberto Solorzano (left) meets and speaks with Pittsburgh District's Kristen Scott (middle) and Art Sullenbarger (right) on February 8, 2018 at their intermediate staging base located at Fort Buchanan's community club.
Scott is the incoming mission manager for non-federal generator support and Sullenbarger is an action officer. They are coordinating support for non-federal generators in Puerto Rico as efforts continue to restore grind power across the island.
Until this week, Albuquerque District led the effort to inspect and maintain locally owned generators that pre-date Hurricane Maria's landfall and have been providing essential power to critical public facilities not yet on grid power.
USACE has been tasked with the maintenance of locally controlled generators at critical public facilities to ensure they continue to operate until grid-power can be restored.
- Operations ensure existing generators can supplement the power needed during the response efforts and remain serviceable for future use
- Crews initially assess generators, and then continue to conduct maintenance and repairs when necessary
- Crews assessed more than 400 generators on the island
- Crews have repaired more than 150 generators and performed generator maintenance more than 290 times
