SAN DIEGO (Feb. 6, 2018) Rear Adm. Dan, "Undra" Cheever, commander, Naval Aviation Warfighting Development Center (NAWDC), right, poses for a photograph with Lt. Andrew Blanco, left, a Surface Warfare Officer filling a readiness production tour at NAWDC, prior to Blanco receiving a prestigious Copernicus Award at a ceremony honoring recipients of the award, Feb. 6. Blanco is dual-qualified as a Surface Warfare Tactics Instructor (WTI) and an E-2 Hawkeye Weapons and Tactics Instructor (WTI). His assignment at NAWDC is one of many readiness production tours available that allow Surface WTIs to refine and develop their tactical acumen by driving Fleet lethality and tactical proficiency by planning and executing advanced tactical training events, refining and developing tactics, techniques, and procedures, and providing direct operational support to the Fleet. WTIs fill readiness production billets after their WTI patches at the Naval Surface and Mine Warfighting Development Center (SMWDC). SMWDC and NAWDC are two of the Navy's five Warfighting Development Centers. (U.S. Navy photo Lt. Matthew Stroup/Released)
