Phill Ulmer, chief of public affairs, 127th Wing here, practices self-rescue techniques during an ice rescue training exercise on Lake St. Clair, Harrison Township, Mich. on Jan. 31, 2017. Ulmer volunteered to assist firefighters of the 127th Civil Engineering Squadron, assigned to the Base Fire Department here, to practice their lifesaving skills. During the winter, local residents enjoy recreational activities on the lake's frozen surface, increasing a need for ice and water rescues. Without sufficient training, first responders and victims can be put into greater danger. (Air National Guard photo by Terry L. Atwell)
