Capt. Thomas Bolen, a Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 251 pilot, prepares for the next aircraft as it heads toward the carrier aboard the flight deck of the USS Enterprise, May 15. The Landing Safety officer keeps his hand above his head until it is safe to land. Once the pilot is in the position to land the LSO moves the pickle switch behinds his back and presses the button that will show the light signal signifying it is safe to land.
