Heath Sirmons, 97th Civil Engineer Squadron optimization branch and chief and Air Installation Compatibility Use Zone program manager, speaks during the AICUZ Study meeting at the Southwest Technology Center May 26. An AICUZ study examines the air space most trafficked by the base, specifically focusing on its noise contours and its potential for aircraft accidents. The study is conducted by Air Force installations any time a major operational change occurs in order to maintain mission capabilities by promoting compatible land use planning, and to protect the health, safety and welfare of local citizens. The meeting allowed the community to openly ask questions. The last AICUZ study was generated in 1999.
