The Pittsburgh District’s emergency temporary power team poses at the Incident Support Base, Fort Buchanon, Puerto Rico, on Dec. 11, 2017, the day after surpassing what was considered an unreachable feat – 500 quality assurance inspections completed in a single day. The significance of this achievement is remarkable in that there are only 20 teams driving to all reaches of the island – to include narrow, mountain roads and busy interstate systems – to get hands on the generators to ensure they are running optimally. Since each generator is hooked up to a critical piece of infrastructure – hospitals, police stations and water pumping stations, to name a few – the QAs take the role seriously. After weeks of doing the inspections, routes have been optimized with teams finding the best routes and sequence of inspection to reach the mark.
