Soldiers of the 1123rd, Sapper Company from the Kentucky Army National Guard from Lietchfield, Ky., fill sandbags in Smithland, Ky., in support of flood relief efforts in Western Kentucky, May 4. Guardsmen are currently deployed to multiple locations across western Kentucky, including Hickman and Smithland. Gov. Steve Beshear requested a major disaster declaration from the president of the United States last week.
