    Lizette Alvarez, a reporter for the New York Times, discovered the remains of a local restaurant called Mel's Diner after a devastating tornado wrecked havoc on the small town of Smithville, Miss. Like the 80s television show, Mel is short for the owner's wife, Melanie.
