Camp Pendleton Fire Department and Marine Light Attack Helicopter Training Squadron 303 began fighting a fire resulting from live-fire mortar training located in the Whiskey impact zone on base. Firefighters conducted a containment operation along the freeway firebreak to prevent the main fire from progressing out of the impact area.
On Oct. 17, air assets from the Cleveland National Forest, along with military air assets, conducted water drops on the perimeter of the fire. The fire has burned 1088 acres, however, it is now 80 percent contained and no damages have been
reported.
