Caitllin Meadows, a member of a science party aboard the Coast Guard Cutter Healy, sifts through a sediment sample while underway in the Arctic, Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2017.

Meadows was picking through the sample, which was taken from the ocean bottom around the Barrow Canyon, in search of damaged shells that might be caused by ocean acidification.
