Col. Jon T. Thomas, 97th Air Mobility Wing commander, officially dedicates an area within the Wings of Freedom Park, April 7, as Combat Airmen’s Grove. The area, which includes several trees and a bench donated by the Altus Military Affairs Committee, is dedicated to the Airmen of the Mighty 97th who have died in a combat zone in service to the nation. Staff Sgt. Andrew S. Bubacz was the first and only Altus airman to date to die while supporting Operation Enduring Freedom; his name is engraved on the granite bench in honor of his sacrifice.
