SAN DIEGO - Sailors assigned to Whidbey Island-class amphibious dock landing ship USS Rushmore (LSD 47) throw messenger lines to the pier as it prepares to moor at Naval Base San Diego, Oct. 12. Rushmore was deployed in support of the Oceania Maritime Security Initiative (OMSI), a secretary of defense program leveraging Department of Defense assets transiting the region to increase the Coast Guard’s maritime domain awareness, ultimately supporting its maritime law enforcement operations in Oceania.
