Marines from Lima Company, 3rd Recruit Training Battalion, transfer the platoon’s guidons to their drill instructors at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, Sept. 15. The retiring of the guidons signifies the disbanding of the platoons. Upon graduation, the new Marines are given 10 days of leave before attending Marine Combat Training at Camp Pendleton Calif. Annually, more than 17,000 males recruited from the Western Recruiting Region are trained at MCRD San Diego.
