Ed Alyanak, an engineer, and Greg Reich, a research team lead with the Aerospace Systems Directorate at the Air Force Research Laboratory at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio, believe that future technological advances will allow Airmen to 3-D print needed equipment or weapons within the area of operations. Utilizing effectiveness-based design, where operational analysis assessment is combined with computational design, combined with the development of large-scale, multiple-material 3-Dimensional printing could circumvent the current method of procuring military assets.
