Thomas Starr of HHC 1249 Engineer Battalion, Task Force Gridley, Oregon National Guard during the land navigation portion of the Task Force Gridley soldier of the Quarter Competition on March 21 in Paktika province, Afghanistan. Soldiers competed in a series of events in the two-day competition including a 5-mile road march, a rifle and pistol shoot, land navigation, essay-writing and an interview board.
