    MANAMA, Bahrain (Sept. 19, 2017) Gen. Joseph L. Votel presents Vice Adm. Kevin M. Donegan with the Distinguished Service Medal marking the end of his tour as commander of U.S. Naval Forces Central Command/Fifth Fleet/Combined Maritime Forces, while Vice Adm. John Aquilino, observes prior to relieving Donegan and assuming command. U.S. Naval Forces Central Command conducts maritime operations to deter and counter regional threats, defeat violent extremism and strengthen partner nations’ maritime capabilities in order to preserve the free flow of commerce and promote a secure maritime environment in the U.S. Central Command area of responsibility.
