U.S. FIFTH FLEET AREA OF OPERATIONS (Sept. 14, 2017) – A UH-1Y Huey with the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit’s Aviation Combat Element lands aboard USS San Diego (LPD 22). With low-flying AH-1Z Viper’s aimed in on a hostile street ahead and hovering UH-1Y Huey’s covering adjacent rooftops, combat Marines can engage under the watchful eye of close air support. The 15th MEU and America Amphibious Ready Group are operating in the 5th Fleet area of operations in support of maritime security operations to reassure allies and partners, and preserve the freedom of navigation and the free flow of commerce in the region.
