In this image released by the Texas Military Forces, Air National Guard Maj. Gen. John Nichols receives a special service award from the State Representatives during a change-of-command ceremony at Camp Mabry, Texas, Saturday, March 12, 2011. The award was presented by Nichol's district representative Doug Miller. Nichols is now the senior military commander responsible for leading more than 24,000 members of the Texas Military Forces, which includes the Texas Army National Guard, Texas Air National Guard, and Texas State Guard. As part of the event, Army National Guard Maj. Gen. Jose Mayorga relinquished command to Nichols. Change-of-command ceremonies illustrate the orderly transition of authority, which is a key component of readiness. (Photo/100th Mobile Public Affairs Detachment, Army National Guard Sgt.
