170905-N-UX013-051 NAVAL BASE GUAM (Sept. 05, 2017) Sailors assigned to the amphibious dock landing ship USS Ashland (LSD 48) demonstrate proficiency in operating a .50-caliber machine gun on the ship’s forecastle during a ship’s self defense drill as part of an Afloat Training Group assessment. Ashland is in Guam for a scheduled voyage repair availability while Marines assigned to the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (31st MEU) conduct unit-level training ashore. Ashland is operating in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region to enhance partnerships and be a ready-response force for any type of contingency.
