Audie Murphy, widely regarded as the most decorated NCO in U.S. Army history, the SAMC was created in 1986 at Fort Hood, Texas, to honor Murphy's service, and to highlight the best among the NCO Corps at Fort Hood. By 1994, the club had spread Army-wide.
