POHAKULOA TRAINING AREA, HAWAII -- Cpl. Shane Gallagher, a squad leader with India Company, 3rd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, directs his team during a squad live-fire event aboard Pohakuloa Training Area, August 18, 2017. The training event, a part of Exercise Bougainville II, incorporated support from mortars and a machine gun emplacement, while fire teams maneuvered by firing and squad-rushing the objective. Exercise Bougainville II prepares 3rd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment for service as a forward deployed force in the Pacific by training them to fight as a ground combat element in a Marine Air-Ground Task Force.
